Capital Research and Management Company (CRMC) has been granted proxy voting authority as from January 1, 2010 by funds under management that have previously voted proxies independent from CRMC e.g. Growth Fund of America (GFA) which holds according a disclosure made by GFA on January 6, 2009 4.9% of Syngenta shares - which respresented voting proxies independently from CRMC up to December 31, 2009. CGC is a holding company for several subsidiary companies engaged in investment management business. The investment management business is divided into two operational groups, represented by CRMC and Capital Group International, Inc. ("CGII"), CRMC is a U.S.-based investment adviser that manages The American Funds family of mutual funds. GCII is the parent company of five companies that serve as investment managers to various institutional clients around the globe; CGTC in the U.S., CII in the U.S. and Singapore, CIL in the United Kingdom, and CISA in Switzerland. CRMC and CGII are are 100% affiliates of CGC. CGTC, CII, CIL, CISA and CIKK are 100% affiliates of CGII. The shares reported in this Notification are owned by accounts under the discretionary investment management of one or more of the investment management companies described above. The discretionary investment management entitles CGC s management companies to exercise voting rights autonomously and this Notification is therefore an "Independent Notification according to the Disclosure Office Notice Nr. II/99"
